Bill Withers is a classic American Jazz Legend. With his distinctive style and voice Bill has brought us and the world some of the most memorable songs of twentieth century. What always struck me as amusing is that Bill brought jazz to people who thought they were listening to pop. Bill sings jazz, Bill is jazz - period! With the same impact that a previous generation jazz great, Billy Holiday, brought the genre to the public's attention, Bill Withers has given us timeless gems that will last for generations to come.
For Bill Withers it's all quite simple. He says, "I write and sing about whatever I am able to understand and feel. I feel that it is healthier to look out at the world through a window than through a mirror. Otherwise, all you see is yourself and whatever is behind you."
