Low Millions Ex-Girlfriends
Low Millions represent the rarest of social entities: A successful open relationship. Adam Cohen, informal ringleader of the band, notes that all the seasoned players involved in Low Millions have passed in and out of each others’ orbits for years. And if a member gets poached by another artist — as often happens with individuals of this caliber — the others don’t worry; the stray always hurries home to play with the Low Millions again.Lead singer and principal songwriter Adam Cohen (son of Leonard Cohen) has recorded as a solo artist , both in French and English, in various international territories. French Canadian by birth, Adam has lived all over the world, including a long stretch in Paris and for shorter periods, living, studying, and playing music in Greece, Canada, and the U.S.
Adam isn’t the only one of the Low Millions with a colorful background or illustrious credits. Guitarist Michael Chaves works on the side with John Mayer. Bassist Jorgen Carlsson and drummer Eric Eldenius both grew up in Sweden. Despite outside commitments, all these talented players have made Low Millions their primary focus, and the band has already played many well-received shows throughout Los Angeles and Southern California.
To help capture the band’s sound on record, and in addition to Adam Cohen acting as producer, the Low Millions enlisted the assistance from several producers, including Pat Leonard (Madonna), David Kahne (Sugar Ray, Matthew Sweet, Sublime), and Kevin Forsey (Billy Idol, Donna Summer).
As for the title Ex Girlfriends, one need only glance at the track list to guess from whence the inspiration for this set of modern pop-rock gems, and whether it be the alluring Eleanor, who has thrown her lover into a tailspin by refusing to answer by the pet name baby any more, or the subject of Hey Jane, crying out, over the sound of loud music from passing cars, to a long-gone lover who has left only her clothes. While disappointment often bubbles up in the lyrical sentiments expressed in these eleven tunes, the craftsmanship and care that permeates the Low Millions’ hook-laden music will inevitably warm your soul.
