Site Navigation and Accessibilty Issues
BIGBAER.com is undergoing a major accessibility focused update. The site itself has been written using valid XHTML markup a pure CSS layout style of coding, since 2001. Since fall of 2002, BIGBAER.com has been gradually converting to an optimized for accessibility layout. The process is ongoing and has seen several important modifications. Improvement and supplements will occur as our general accessibility knowledge grows.
CSS Liquid Layout and Relative Font-size
One of the most noticeable changes was the sites transition from a fixed width layout to a fully fluid, or liquid, layout. Text size is scalable as well due to the use of the CSS em unit of measure which, not only controls the font size, but is used to provide the fluid layout. All of the pages added since the mid-2002 are authored using relative font size which allows users to select their text size viewing preferences as permitted by their user-agent. Internet Explorer users can find the text size option listed in the VIEW menu. Mozilla and Netscape users have similar options. Users of the Opera Browser have ZOOM and SCALE functionality as a standard, easily accessible, option.
Selecting the largest text-size setting in Internet Explorer and keying F-11 will change the display to a full screen view with large text and an easy to read format. The use of ACCESS KEYS provides for enhanced keyboard navigation. The underlined letters present in the top of page navigation menu reflects the hotkeys assigned for accesskey navigation. The Accessibility page lists all the access key assigments as well as other accessibility features and enhancements present on BIGBAER.com. Here you will also find a growing list of articles and accessibility resources.
