Dead Flowers "the fish in the aquarium make moving patterns on the wall next to the roses shadow she hears him coming down the hall come in, she says as he walks into the room and sits down on the bed look at that, he says pointing to the gift of love the flowers are dead
"on the bed their legs intertwine his lips across her face her mouth opens her heart opens with nothing in it but empty space it ended weeks ago and now theyre just friends at least thats what they said her head at the foot of the bed she looks at the wall the flowers are dead
"softly she fumbles for the clock its after five not quite dark she looks at him and cant remember ever feeling a spark she cant wait for him to leave and lean against the pillows empty head and whistle a tune shes known before the flowers are dead the flowers are dead"

Lisa has a strong, clear voice and is an innovative songwriter. She definitely is not afraid to take chances or to push the realm of alternative pop to a decidedly darker side.
Lisa Hogan does this in a way that is unique. Her songs evoke a story-like quality that brings greater weight and credibility. She does what every artist hopes to achieve: capture the moment. And that is never an easy task.

"The Other Way" is also the name of the first song on the album, which immediately follows a brief intro snippet of the Jimi Hendrix classic "Are You Experienced." It is a song about fear and apathy, New York City traffic, and choosing the wrong taxi-cab.
Vocally Lisa ranges from the plaintive to the powerful. She demands a lot from her music and she delivers in spades. Sarah McLaughlin, Janis Ian and Carole King are legitimate comparisons.
Each of Lisa Hogan songs is a story wrapped and delivered with raw, uninhibited emotion and surrounded by tight musical arrangements. Her lyrical honesty in dealing with painful emotions is refreshing. Love, lust, infidelity, fear and denial are dealt with straightforward, in a no-holds-barred fashion.
I Don't Think "I don't think when your lips touch mine. I don't think when I close my eyes. I won't cry when you leave for the night. There is nothing more than this; there is nothing more than this. I don't think when I wrap my legs around your waist. I don't think when I trace the lines on your face. I won't cry when you're gone for days. There is nothing more than this, there is nothing more than this…"
I Go Down has a funky, folk ballad flavor. It is a very complex and vocally challenging song with an excellent jazz backdrop highlighted by some seriously sweet muted trumpet from Russ Johnson. Lisa's expressive vocals and a memorable hook make I Go Down my favorite song off the album.
I Go Down "I go down so deep to remember its like the bottom of the sea where I touch all the stones we turned and I see how we never changed I go down so far the silence quiets the pain and I feel you again with me if I go down so deep
"I go down so deep to remember its like the bottom of the sea where I find the love we lost Ive got to breathe the air to live cause loving you wont come again no matter how much I want to pretend I can not live if I go down so deep I can not live if I go down so deep
"I can remember love like I've never known I can drown in my own deep waters
"I can remember love like I've never known I can drown in my own deep waters"

It will be interesting to see where Lisa Hogan takes her career and her songwriting. One thing that is very apparent is her passion and since passion is a great motivator, I expect to see and hear a lot more of Lisa Hogan in years to come.
