In's & Out's: How to be Creative with Nothing!
When you are a new artist you face
several situations, Your have no budget for promotional
so how are you going to get seen? What you have
to learn is how to be creative with nothing.
Once you know how to get things done with no
money, when you get money you can be more cost effective.
Fliers? So what if you can't get 10,000 full color glossy fliers.
Just make a professional looking flier that does the job. Then
go out there and hit the streets, but be specific on where you go, don't
just hand them out to anybody.
First:
Seek out any local colleges that have student organizations that deal
with Music Business! Do
a little research find out who the contacts are and go there.
Most
student orgainizations that deal with music have students that may intern
or work at a label or distribution plant. That
can be a networking tool. Use it!
Second:
A music retailer is always a stomping ground. Speak
with the store's manager ask if you can leave fliers.
They might offer you valuable information and who you might want to
contact. Either mom & pop retailers or major music chains.
Third:
Find out if there are any regional offices in your city. Either
a Universal Music Group, Columbia, EMI or BMG Distribution.
All
of these house major labels, network! Go there and drop off fliers.
Don't be shy or lazy to be successful you have to get the work done.
Fourth:
Go to the local radio stations. Ask
questions and drop off your fliers. Network
some more!
Remember be
efficient on who you hand your fliers to, an ordinary person would
throw your flier away, but someone in the industry will take interests.
