Mystikal News,
Updates & Bio

Mystikal prodigal son of the Big Easy is without a doubt, kickin' some of the tightest lyrics and spittin' some of the illest flowz!

Flamboyant, unpredictable, Ghetto Fabulous! For the last eight years this artist has been treating rap fans to a succession of ever tigher, ever more Mystikal offerings. His latest, "Let's Get Ready" could be the defining piece for this veteran of Desert Storm.

Mystikal began his apprenticeship into the world of hip hop way back in 1980. Influence and inspiration from the likes of Warren Mayes, MC Thick, Gregory D and Mannie Flesh all contributed to his development and drive. "Some of my major influences were early New Orleans MCs like Gregory D. He was one of the first cats to make a record in New Orleans. Mannie Fresh, Sporty T, MC Thick...I grew up either challenging them at gong shows (a popular series of talent shows held around New Orleans) or opening up for them." Not withstanding and influences aside, Mystikal's style is his own: Fast, furious, and very unpredictable!

In 1994 after returning from Desert Storm, Mystikal connceted with a local label called BIG BOY Records, which released his first underground LP titled "The Mind of Mystikal." "Basically, with the first record, I was just trying to get my foot in the door," says Mystikal. I was a freshman and I wanted to prove that I had something. All I asked my company was 'Put me out and I'll do the rest."

300,000 units? Virtually over night? Can you say Blow Up! Indepentdent distribution? Not after that kind of explosion! The record sales earned Mystikal a distibution deal with New York based Jive Records. Under Jive auspices, "The Mind of Mystikal" went gold and helped to establish his highness as one of the premiere MCs in hip hop. Three years after the release of his debut LP, Mystikal sent shockwaves through the hip hop nation when he joined forces with Master P's No Limit Records and released the platinum selling "Unpredictable."

Mystikal recalls, "With "Unpredictable" I was finally a sophomore. I went from local to national with the first album; with this one, I went from national to super-national."

"Ghetto Fabulous," his third release also went platinum and established the rapper from N.O. as a legitimate national superstar. Where is Mystikal going with his fourth CD? How high is up dawg? " Let's Get Ready..." Produced in part by veteran hit makers the medicine Men (formerly known as Beats By The Pound) and legendary N.O. producer Precise (who produced Mystikal's first joint,) "Let's..." also features production by Atlanta's favorites Outkast and NY beats makers The Neptunes.

The sheer variety of sounds offered by this high-powered talent set makes Mystikal's new project a collection of slamming tracks that will that will have rap fans bumpin' the chrome right off the CD! The Neptunes produced lead single Shake Ya Ass is a classic "made for the club" track with hooked rhythm and an impossible to ignore chorus sung in a big pimpin falsetto that will burn up dance floors and strip clubs around the country. On the stand up, take notice, song The Braids, Mystikal gets down with the fire lyrics over a sizzling track produced by Outkast. Another standout track is Some Of Us Ain't Gone See Tomorrow. Inspired by Mystikal's deep faith in God, this is an introspective song where Mystikal examines socio-political issues from a spiritual perspective. "Anybody who really knows me knows that I'm real close with God," says the artist. "I just wanted to do a song that reminds people how serious life is."

"Let's Get Ready..." is Mystikal's most ambitious project to date. "I have surpassed a lot of stepping stones and a lot of milestones in hip hop," says Mystikal about his career. "But I'm still growing. Mark my words, this is going to be my era."

One of the first rappers from New Orleans to get nationwide exposure. He released his first album "Mind Of Mystikal" in 1994 on Big Boy Records.

Once he started gettin some recogintion he then signed a contract with the well known Jive Records where "Mind Of Mystikal" was re-released with a few extra cuts.

Mystikal aka Michael Tyler is 26 yrs old. Mystikal was in the Desert Storm war, this where he got his idea to form his original crew, the Boot Camp Clicc.

Mystikal made his 1st appearance on No Limit on Steady Mobb'n's album on a song called "Its On". He then reappeared on the "Bout It" soundtrack on "What 'Cha Think".

After hearing the song, P was quoted as saying, "this is the type of lyrics that should be said on my label". In a Rolling Stone article, P said him and Mystikal share a bond and can relate to one another well because they both had siblings who were murdered. P's brother Kevin as ya know and Mystikal's sister Michelle Tyler.

Mystikal's tale is a lil deeper because his sister was murdered by her boyfriend,(Damion Neville, grandson of the Neville Brothers' Charles). Mystikal tells the whole story in "Murder 2". Michelle makes an appearance on Mystikal's 1st album on a song called "Not That Nigga" where she sings the chorus. - Bio Courtesy of No Limit Records
